Includes: a cylindrical section welded to a lower conical section and flanged to an upper dished head; an internal hollow shaft supporting a series of equally spaced filter plates
While separation takes place, shaft/filter plates assembly does not rotate. The slurry is injected from the bottom of the vessel. Once the vessel is full of slurry, pressure is applied at the top end and the solid - liquid separation takes place. While wet solid remains above each of the filter plates, filtrate flows across them, into the hollow shaft. Filtrate outlet is located in the conical section of the vessel.
A Wet cake discharge is performed at the end of the batch filtration, thanks the centrifugal force generated by the rotation of the shaft/filter plates assembly. Product is pushed to the vessel side walls, slides to the lower conical section and finally to the discharge valve.
Shaft is supported from the top
In order to improve separation performance recirculation of filtrate can be performed and filter aids can be used.
